Overview
Nine private days combining Morocco's four imperial capitals, the Atlantic port of Essaouira and the windswept Oualidia lagoon — the definitive slow circuit of the country's cultural and coastal highlights.
This nine-day journey is for travellers who want both Morocco's extraordinary cities and its Atlantic coast in one coherent private circuit. We begin in Marrakech, move north through Rabat and the imperial heartland to Fes, then strike west across the Middle Atlas to the whitewashed ramparts of Essaouira — followed by two nights on the Oualidia lagoon eating oysters at the water's edge — before returning south to Marrakech.
Every city has its own private guide; every overnight is in a riad inside a medina or on the water. Driving legs are kept short (never more than 3.5 hours) and the programme builds in a free afternoon each day so you can breathe rather than rush. This itinerary suits first-time Morocco visitors who want to see the complete picture, and returning travellers who want to explore the coast properly for the first time.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
Is "Cities & Coast — 9 Days" private or a group tour?
100% private. Just you and the people you book with — your own driver, vehicle and pace from start to finish. We never pool travellers.
Can I change the dates or itinerary?
Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Add a day, swap a riad, change the start city — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.
How fit do I need to be?
Moderate. Expect 2–4 hours of light walking per day and one or two longer driving days. We pace days carefully and stop often.
When should I book?
For high season (Oct–Apr) and any trip involving the Sahara or hot-air balloon, book 8–12 weeks ahead. Last-minute (under 14 days) is usually still possible with a phone call.
How does this differ from the 8-day Imperial Cities itinerary?
The 8-day Imperial Cities tour focuses purely on the royal capitals and ends in Fes. This 9-day circuit adds the Atlantic coast — two nights in Essaouira and an oyster lunch at Oualidia — making it a more complete portrait of Morocco. It also starts and ends in Marrakech, which suits those flying in and out of the same airport.
Is the Essaouira wind a problem?
The Alizé trade wind is part of what makes Essaouira beautiful — a constant, cool Atlantic breeze that keeps the temperature comfortable even in summer. Windsurfers love it; walkers find the medina and port well sheltered. We always pack a windproof layer for each client on this tour.
Can the itinerary start in Fes instead of Marrakech?
Yes — we reverse the circuit, starting in Fes and ending in Marrakech or Essaouira, whichever suits your flights. Many clients fly into Fes (FEZ) and out of Marrakech (RAK) — a one-way routing that works perfectly with this nine-day arc.
