Region

High Atlas · Imlil & Toubkal

The High Atlas rises straight out of the Marrakech plain. Within 60 minutes of leaving the city, you can be in Imlil at 1,740m, surrounded by Berber villages, walnut and cherry orchards, and trails that climb to Jbel Toubkal — the highest mountain in North Africa at 4,167m. The Atlas works as a day trip, a weekend at a mountain lodge, or a proper 2–3 day trek with guides and mules.

FAQ

Atlas Mountains — common questions

Can you climb Toubkal without a guide?+

Since the 2018 incident a licensed guide is mandatory. We use a small panel of certified local mountain guides we've worked with for years.

Is the Atlas worth visiting if I don't trek?+

Absolutely — Asni, Ouirgane and Ourika all offer comfortable lodge stays with short, easy walks. Many guests use the Atlas as a quiet 2-night recovery after Marrakech.
