Overview
A day in the Berber valleys an hour south of Marrakech: a Berber village walk, a saffron cooperative, riverside tagine lunch and an optional waterfall hike through the Atlas foothills.
The Ourika Valley is the quietest and most rewarding day trip from Marrakech. The road runs south into the High Atlas following the Ourika river through terracotta villages, terraced fields and walnut groves. An hour from the medina and the air is already cool and clear; another 20 minutes and the valley walls close in and the Atlas peaks appear above.
We spend the day on foot and at a slow pace: a Berber village walk with a local guide, a stop at the Ourika saffron cooperative (the crop harvested each November), a tagine lunch on a riverbank terrace, and an optional 45-minute walk to the Setti Fatma waterfalls. Back in Marrakech by early evening.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
Is the Ourika Valley suitable for children?
Excellent for families. The village walk is flat and easy; the waterfall hike involves stepping stones and a short scramble that most children over 6 manage well with a hand from the guide. We can adjust the pace entirely to your group.
What is the best time of year for this trip?
October to April, when the Atlas is snow-capped and the valley is lush. July and August are hot in the valley but the drive is pleasant. The saffron harvest runs through November if you'd like to see the flowers.
Is this a private or shared tour?
Entirely private. Your driver and guide work only with your group. We never combine strangers on any of our excursions.
Can I combine this with the Berber Kitchen cooking class?
Chef Fatima's home is also in the Ourika Valley — a popular combination is the morning village walk and saffron stop followed by an afternoon cooking class with her. We'll price both together.
