Overview
A two-day escape: the Ouzoud waterfalls — Morocco's most spectacular, at 110m — followed by a night in a family-run Atlas guesthouse, Barbary macaques in the cedar forest, and an olive-oil mill stop on the return.
The Ouzoud Falls are the largest waterfall in North Africa — a triple cascade of 110m dropping into a red-rock gorge colonised by wild Barbary macaques. Most visitors do a rushed day trip; we spend two days, overnighting in the valley to see the falls in the soft morning light before the tour buses arrive.
The route north from Marrakech crosses the Haouz plain and climbs through the olive groves and argan forests of the Middle Atlas foothills, stopping at a traditional olive-oil mill and a Berber market town. We stay in a simple but excellent family-run guesthouse above the gorge — locally cooked dinner, good beds, and the sound of the falls carrying on the night air. The following morning is quiet, slow, and very beautiful.

Day 1 · Marrakech → Olive groves → Ouzoud Falls
via Aït Attab · 170kmLate-morning pickup from your Marrakech riad. We head north-east across the Haouz plain and into the olive-covered foothills of the Middle Atlas, stopping at a family olive-oil mill for a cold-press demonstration and a tasting of fresh oil with bread. Continue to the Ouzoud gorge, arriving by mid-afternoon. Walk down the cliff path to the base of the falls: three tiers of water crashing 110m into a turquoise pool, with wild Barbary macaques moving through the oleander above the spray. Sunset on the gorge rim. Dinner at the guesthouse — Berber couscous and fresh salads.

Day 2 · Ouzoud morning → Marrakech
Falls at first light · 170km returnEarly start to reach the falls before 08:00 — the light enters the gorge at an angle that turns the mist into a rainbow and the cliff face copper. Spend 90 minutes at the base; the Barbary macaques are most active in the morning cool. Optional 20-minute river boat trip beneath the main falls. Breakfast back at the guesthouse, then an unhurried drive back to Marrakech via the Bin el Ouidane reservoir viewpoint — a vast emerald lake in a bare mountain bowl. Back in Marrakech by early afternoon.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
Is "Ouzoud Falls & Atlas Overnight" private or a group tour?
100% private. Just you and the people you book with — your own driver, vehicle and pace from start to finish. We never pool travellers.
Can I change the dates or itinerary?
Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Add a day, swap a riad, change the start city — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.
How fit do I need to be?
Easy. Light walking on medina cobblestones, plus optional activities you can opt in or out of on the day.
When should I book?
For high season (Oct–Apr) and any trip involving the Sahara or hot-air balloon, book 8–12 weeks ahead. Last-minute (under 14 days) is usually still possible with a phone call.
When are the Ouzoud Falls at their most impressive?
December through April, when the winter rains fill the Oued el-Abid river and the flow is at its maximum. The falls are still impressive in summer but the volume is lower. Whatever the season, morning light before 09:00 is always the most beautiful time at the gorge.
Are there many other tourists at Ouzoud?
Ouzoud is popular with Moroccan day-trippers at weekends, but manageable on weekdays. By staying overnight you automatically experience the falls in the morning before any day-trip coaches arrive — which is genuinely peaceful and far more photogenic.
