Overview
A two-day Ourika Valley overnight: afternoon village walk and saffron cooperative, a night at a Berber family guesthouse above the river, sunrise with the Atlas peaks, and the Setti Fatma waterfalls before returning to Marrakech.
Most people do the Ourika Valley as a day trip and arrive back in Marrakech feeling slightly rushed. This two-day version solves that: we spend an afternoon and evening in the valley — visiting a Berber village on foot, stopping at the saffron cooperative and spending the night at a small family guesthouse perched above the river — and then have all the following morning for the Setti Fatma waterfall walk before a slow return.
The difference one night makes is significant. You eat dinner with the family who runs the guesthouse: slow-cooked lamb with seasonal vegetables, Berber bread from a wood-fired oven, and fresh walnut oil on the table. After dinner the valley goes completely quiet — no traffic, no city noise — and the Atlas peaks that are snow-capped from November to April glow faintly in the moonlight. Sunrise in the valley is one of the most peaceful moments available within an hour of Marrakech.

Ourika Valley · 45km from MarrakechMid-afternoon pickup from your Marrakech riad. We drive south into the High Atlas foothills along the Ourika river — the valley walls closing in, the air turning cool and clear within 30 minutes of leaving the city. First stop: a Berber village above the valley floor, where a local herbalist guide walks you through the terraced fields explaining the saffron plots, wild thyme, mountain mint and the traditional irrigation channels (seguias) that have watered these slopes for centuries. Short stop at the Ourika saffron cooperative — a women's collective that cultivates the world's most expensive spice at altitude; the November harvest is extraordinary to witness if dates allow. Arrive at the family guesthouse by sunset: a stone house built on a terrace above the river with a front terrace facing the Atlas. Home-cooked dinner with the family — lamb tagine, fresh bread, and a walnut and honey dessert.

Day 2 · Sunrise → Setti Fatma waterfalls → Marrakech
Setti Fatma · Ourika Valley · 45km returnSlow Berber breakfast on the terrace as the Atlas peaks catch the first light — one of the most peaceful mornings in Morocco. Drive 20 minutes further up the valley to Setti Fatma village, where a short gorge walk (45 minutes up, stepping stones, a gentle scramble) reaches the first of the seven cascading waterfalls. Best before 09:00 when the light enters the gorge and the pool below the falls is still empty. Back at the car by mid-morning; drive back down the valley — with a stop if it's souk day in Aghbalou, where valley farmers sell mountain honey, walnuts and fresh produce at the weekly market. Back in Marrakech by lunchtime.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
How is this different from your one-day Ourika Valley excursion?
The one-day trip covers the valley walk, saffron cooperative and a riverside lunch, and returns to Marrakech by evening. This two-day version adds the overnight experience at a family guesthouse — home cooking, a genuinely quiet night above the river, and the sunrise on the Atlas — plus the waterfall walk at first light before any day-trip coaches arrive. The overnight is the reason to do it.
What is the guesthouse like?
A traditional Berber stone house on a terrace above the Ourika river, run by a local family for over 20 years. Simple, very clean, with a private room and a shared bathroom. The front terrace faces the Atlas peaks directly. It is not a luxury property — the value is the family, the food, the silence and the view. If you prefer a more formal hotel option in the valley, we can arrange an alternative at a supplement.
What is the best season for this overnight?
October to April for the snow-capped Atlas backdrop and the lush valley. November is saffron-harvest season in the Ourika — if you visit then you may be able to help pick the crocus flowers in the morning with the cooperative members. February and March bring almond and cherry blossom to the valley walls. July and August are warm but the valley stays cooler than Marrakech and the river runs well.
Can I combine this with the Berber Kitchen cooking class?
Yes — chef Fatima's family home is also in the Ourika Valley. A popular combination is to do the two-day overnight first and add the cooking class as a third day before returning to Marrakech. We can arrange all three seamlessly and price them together.
